Part of the Greater Manchester Fringe
Following last years nomination for Best Drama at the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival Awards, From Heaven to Hell returns as a two-act play.
It's 1914, Great Britain has declared war on the Central Powers and 9,000 men have left Manchester to begin their basic training. But when news from close friend William Jones reaches disgruntled Manchester Ship Canal worker John Harper about a British Army recruitment drive at the Salford Royal Hippodrome, Harper sees a road to a better life. Leaving their loved ones behind, Harper and Jones enlist into the 1st Salford Pals to serve their country and for greater financial prospects. But with a ruthless Sergeant in charge of their battalion and the march toward Thiepval looming over them, the young lads soon discover that life as a soldier isn't exactly what they thought it would be.
Inspired by actual events, From Heaven to Hell is a story of camaraderie, romance, loss and the horrors of war.
