EDENSONG (New York)
Join New York Progressive Rockers Edensong on their first UK tour along with Mothertongue and Voronoi for an unforgettable evening of music. Sponsored by Manchester Rocks!
Edensong is a progressive rock quintet from New York City that Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson has described as «a great example of the contemporary face of progressive rock.»
Edensong's history as a band is just as long, epic, and unpredictable as its music. The 2018 lineup includes long-time members like viking-bearded singer/guitarist James Schoen, second singer and bass playing hobbit/spider-demon TD Towers, and hypnotizing “dancing muppet” flute player Barry Seroff. They are joined by the virtuosic koto player and composer Kento Iwasaki, and drummer Nicholas DiGregorio, whose improvisational skill, jazz background, and hallowed status as a longtime friend of the band (largely responsible for turning the founding members onto prog in the first place!) makes him the perfect addition to the lineup.
The band's self-released 2008 debut «the Fruit Fallen» was hailed as a «masterpiece» by critics, and helped to pave the way for live shows and notable festival appearances throughout North America, including Progday in North Carolina, Three Rivers Progressive Rock Festival in Pittsburgh, PA, and Festival Terra Incognita in Quebec City, where Edensong shared the stage with acts ranging from Ozric Tentancles to Kings X to Discipline.
Edensong's followup, «Years in the Garden of Years,» was released in September 2016 through Laser's Edge. The concept record further explores the band's intricately composed eclectic orchestral rock style, but infuses it with more energy and sheer power. The melodies are more memorable, the riffs more powerful, the flute playing more inventive and propulsive. The songs prominently feature immersive new textures, from lush keyboard and orchestral arrangements to esoteric percussion from around the world, such as hang drum and Balinese gamelan.
Thanks to the massive response «Years in the Garden of Years» received from the progressive rock community, and sagacious guidance from some of the genre's luminaries, Edensong made a stunning return to live performances in 2017, with a US/Canada tour and several festival appearances including a prominent appearance at RoSfest 2017. By the end of the year, Edensong had appeared with Pain of Salvation, Neal Morse, Anglagard and many more. 2018 will be an equally ambitious year for Edensong and will mark the band’s first UK tour with an appearance at the long running and well loved Summers End festival. The band are excited to be playing in Manchester as part of the tour.
Starting out by straddling contemporary jazz and heavy metal, Voronoi are now a brutally dark, synth driven, sci-fi themed experimental rock goliath.
