Friends of the Whitworth present a series of free Sunday Concerts performed by students from RNCM — Royal Northern College of Music that are open to all.

Selected Sunday afternoons, 3pm. Free

Past concerts have included classical flamenco guitar to contemporary flute. There really is something for all tastes and ages. Each concert will last around 45 minutes, and you can feel free to drop in and out.

Sunday 20 January 2019
RNCM A Cappella – A six piece a cappella group who will take you on a journey through time from the Renaissance to contemporary. Works to include: Palestrina, Mozart, Schubert, Elgar, Ola Gjeilo and other folksong as well as pop tune arrangements.

Sunday 3 February 2019
Lucida Saxophone Quartet – The Lucida Saxophone Quartet is an upcoming and innovative ensemble comprising members of the Royal Northern College of Music (Kezia Lovick-Jones, Becky Corbett, Ellen Pointon, Tas Noguchi). Formed in 2017, the group regularly performs a wide range of music, from traditional saxophone repertoire to contemporary commissions.

Sunday 17 February 2019
Freeman String Quartet — String Quartet No 19 in C Major, K 465 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, nicknamed «Dissonance» because of its unusual slow introduction, is perhaps the most famous of his quartets. It is the last in the six quartets composed between 1782 and 1785 that he dedicated to Joseph Haydn.

Sunday 3 March 2019
Calla Flute Quartet – Calla flutes are a new vibrant flute quartet made up of students from the RNCM. Individually they are fine flute players, and as a group they were placed second in the Fewkes chamber prize for woodwind. In their concert you will be welcomed with some well-loved music arranged for the combination from Barber to Ravel, as well as flute favourites from the baroque and French music genres.

Sunday 24 March 2019
Paula O’Malley and Andrew Broome – Marimba and Clarinet duo will be performing Daughtrey’s Strange Dreams among other works.

Sunday 14 April 2019
Brass Quartet Menine. This is part of their Easter tour.
