ANATOMY BASIC COURSE (ABC) — FASCIA FOUNDATIONS INTRODUCTION WITH JOANNE AVISON
MANCHESTER PILOT COURSE
Connecting the tissue of body, mind and being
with Joanne Avison, IAYT, E-RYT500, MSS
Author: YOGA, Fascia, Anatomy & Movement (Handspring Publishing)
The Fundamentals of the Fascia Foundation Course
This practical course will leave you clear as to how and why the fascia is so important to you, personally, as a human being and professionally, as a yoga, pilates or movement teacher. Fascia is the fundamental fabric of your living, animated form. When you understand the way it is organised, the essentials of its architecture, its connections and disconnections, you will be able to understand some of the mysteries of living bodies and guiding other bodies to help them move better.
n.b. The course is about 60% practical, with additional take-home information for reference.
This is a practical course that works for Yoga, Pilates and Movement teachers. Some people have a very scientific mind, others entirely practical, others more thoughtful and some are just curious about movement and love yoga for its versatility and range. For many — teaching yoga, pilates and movement is the result of resolving issues in their own lives or injuries they experienced. In all cases, studying anatomy can be the “boring base-line” that has to be crossed, to tick the “qualified box”.
What if it is thrilling and exciting because it changes the way you feel? What if you could become so fascinated by what you already sense makes sense, that you discover what you are already doing has a body wisdom of its own? What if that is the key? These classes are super-friendly, fun and practical and you will leave knowing a lot more about how you formed, how you feel your way in the world and why it matters….in your body’s language.
This course is completed after 3 Saturdays, one per month over three months. Each Saturday is made up of a morning module and an afternoon module, completing three full training contact hours per module; 24 Basic Fascial Anatomy CPD hours all together. There is a very practical bias to the classroom — with further information and reading to enhance your understanding after the workshop days. There are also lots of “take-aways” that you can put into your practice and classes immediately.
Modules 1 -6
• Module 1: What is Fascia really?
• Module 2: Where is it in the body and why does it change what we know?
• Module 3: How will it change my yoga practice and teaching?
• Module 4: What is Living Architecture and why is it so important?
• Module 5: What is a Movement Signature and why is it the missing key?
• Module 6: What is Biotensegrity and how does it give us access to Body Wisdom in practice?
Joanne Avison is an advanced Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) and Structural Integration practitioner/teacher. Joanne’s fascination with fascia and human architecture, led her to become a founding member of BIG (Biotensegrity Interest Group), pioneering the application of Biotensegrity for movement and manual practitioners. As author of YOGA: Fascia, Anatomy & Movement (Handspring, 2015) her unique practice and passion for teaching applied structural anatomy, explains how and why people move uniquely.
